I was very excited when I saw that this came out... Finally something from HTC for the EVO. I could charge and watch movies at the same time. Then I used it and all the wind came out of my sails..
First of all you have to pretty much tap your head, rub your belly and jump up and down to make it work! Directions say - You have to turn your TV OFF! Really! (oh I'm sorry it actually says your output device must be off) So for those of you that don't know that would be your TV or HDMI monitor. Then you have to plug in your HDMI cable, then you can plug in your power cord. BTW the power cord doesn't come with it and the HDMI cable that comes with it is horrible. It caused lines while watching TV on my HD Satellite because I left it plugged in. Now that those steps are done you can turn your output device on but you can't flip it over to watch anything till your phone reads HDMI in the upper left hand corner and then you can flip it over to the HDMI output once all that is done.
If you keep the dock and everything plugged in and you just walk up to it and plug in your EVO it will NOT work. Unlike my ipod touch, where I can just leave everything plugged and just walk over and plug in my ipod to watch my video's through the TV , this one you have to unplug and plug and turn off your TV before anything will work.
Now, if that wasn't bad enough... Once your done using the dock and you undock it. Don't expect sound to come out so you can listen to music, or other videos on your EVO. That would be WAY to easy, the only way to get your settings back so you can hear anything is that you actually have to power off your phone and then turn it back on.
There were a couple of little minor things like hard to dock at the angle it is in, no micro USB cable to charge on dock, HDMI cable is very cheap. If you don't mind jumping through the hoops to watch your video's then I would recommend a better cable.
I returned it a week later.. Since you have to use your own power cord to charge, I just ended up buying a $2.19 mini HDMI cable for it and that cable blows the one that comes with it away!
