This system works great, very easy to install. The internet remote viewing is acceptable. The instructions are very well written, and clear to understand. I first set this up as a a DHCP connection worked great. It was easy to set up until I realized the ip on the dvr would change every few hours so I called my isp and they told me to just follow the dvr instructions for static ip instead, which I did and was also very easy, and it has stayed connected remotely ever since!
I installed a second Q-See QR414 in a separate store which already had a lorex camera system set up. All I had to do was switch dvr's and now the Q-see dvr is using the lorex camera package. Why not just use the twelve hundred dollar lorex setup? Because it has been nothing but trouble from day one unlike the Q-see it will not port forward correctly and has huge FPS issues. This Q-see however refreshes at what looks about 30fps, not bad at all. Also the Q-see can be viewed locally (lan)using internet explorer (you just have to completely enable active x plugins long enough to install the active x cabinet) whereas with the lorex you had to use their software program. I have not yet tried mobile alerts, if I do I will update the review.
A few downsides to the Q-see remote viewing program "D9-Viewer": Moving figures tend to freeze and then smear to catch up with themselves, which may be a latency issue. Also it seems to freeze/white-screen/crash if you have it open and running in the background for too long, I've noticed this on two computers so far. (update: I downloaded and installed the latest software from the q-see website and it does not freeze any more.)
Here is a tip if you already have cameras and camera av/power cables, or just want to get some cameras a little higher end than these; you can save some money if you just get the dvr, which I did for my second setup as this box contains two separate boxes. One is the dvr and peripherals the other is the cameras and peripherals (the QR414 inputs are RG-59 BNC.)
