(More customer reviews)We purchased this LCD TV a few weeks ago and just hooked it up yesterday, so I probably don't have all the features/capabilities listed here, but our initial feelings are very positive.
I was looking for a 15" or 16" LCD because we had specific space requirements where we needed a unit that would fit in a cabinet with a bit more than a 16" wide opening. Since the screen size is measured as diagonal, I figured I should be able to find something.
When I saw the technical specs on this model I was surprised, and probably should have taken a few minutes to do a little more investigation and just do the math, because the dimensions indicated above are simply incorrect.
"Built-In Speakers 2 x 10W - RF Cable Input - Dimensions: 15.8''W x 12.9''H x 3.6''D"
First, right on the box it comes in, like Pyle's 15.6" models, it says the speakers are 2x3W. Second, though it also says right on the box the dimensions are as indicated above at 15.8" W x 12.9" H x 3.6" D those numbers are clearly incorrect as it does not fit in the space we have. Those dimensions are also the same as indicated for their 15.6" models. I measured and it is actually 17.9" W x 12" H. Since the info on the packaging are incorrect for the dimensions, it left me wondering if the speakers were really 2x3W as it says on the box, or the 2x10W it says in the technical info here? Much of the other info right on the box/packaging disagree with what is listed above as well:
Above:
- 17'' LCD Screen - 1366 x 768 High Resolution - 90° Horizontal/ 45° Vertical Viewing Angle - Multiple Input Options: AV, S-Video, VGA, HDMI, YPbPr Ports, Phone - 30W Power Consumption
- 400:1 Contrast Ratio
Packaging:
- 1280 x 768 High Resolution
- 178° Horizontal / 178° Vertical Viewing Angle
- 40 W Power Consumption
- 600:1 Contrast Ratio
Aside from all the incorrect product info stated on the box and the info here, the TV is a quality product and we're very happy with it.
Things we like:
1. Built-in ATSC/OTA tuner. I had purchased a few digital-analog converter boxes for $40 each because all the other TVs in our home are tubes. The fact it's built-in and performs well is a benefit.
2. More types of connectors than you will ever need. You have RCA, HDMI, VGA, etc. Only one of each type, but with this size unit, would you really need any more than one of each type?
3. Though it's not clear what the speakers are, they sound good. Through the menu, there are presets for the type of sound (sort of like preset treble/bass) - we put it on the cinema setting since that sounded best to us.
4. The on screen programming guide for the TV is pretty good. Though it doesn't provide a full guide for all stations at once (though it may since we haven't discovered all the features yet), it does provide more than the standard digital-analog converter boxes. When you are on a station, you can pull up the guide and scroll forward to see what is coming up on that station.
5. Using the remote is pretty intuitive once you get used to which buttons are where.
6. There is a very good viewing angle range on this. We all know of problems viewing an LCD screen as you move to the sides not viewing straight on. This model does not exhibit such problems as the picture was very good from any angle.
Things we don't like:
1. When changing channels there is about a 3 second delay before the picture is displayed. Maybe it is doing a scan in that time. But if I were the designer, I would have continued showing the picture from the prior channel instead of showing a black screen during that period. It's a bit annoying seeing a black screen.
2. The product description indicates "The included 12 V cigarette lighter adaptor allows you to power this TV in your RV, boat, or other recreational vehicle." - this is false as it did not come with a 12V adapter. I'm sure that one could be purchased since it does have an external power supply, however, I had expected it to be included as the description stated as such.
I was hesitant to buy this at the $190+ price point (seems you can find it as low as about $175 now), but found one on Warehouse Deals for $147 and jumped at it. Very happy with it for that price.
